It is a treatment that allows us to make changes in the luminosity of our teeth while being conservative with hard tissues.
There is the possibility of doing it on vital teeth (when we want to change the color of our teeth in a general way) and also on non-vital teeth (when we talk about those cases in which we have one or some teeth much darker than the rest as a consequence from previous trauma).
Whitening can be done in the dental clinic or at home, under the supervision and following the guidelines of the dentist.
For clinical treatment, a protective barrier must be placed at the gum level to avoid discomfort during the procedure. The session lasts approximately 30 minutes and if necessary a second application could be done in another session. In some cases we can combine both treatments, according to the needs of each case. The most common active ingredients are hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide.
Lastly, it is important to highlight that this treatment could have the purpose of changing the color and luminosity or become a complementary treatment prior to treatment with ceramic restorations.
