Do your gums bleed?
Periodontics is the specialty of Dentistry that is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal (gingivitis and periodontitis) and peri-implant diseases (mucositis and peri-impoantitis), that is, of the tissues that surround the teeth and dental implants, respectively.
The main cause of these diseases is the accumulation of bacteria in the gum, which generate an inflammatory reaction. Gingivitis and mucositis are reversible diseases; However, periodontitis and peri-implantitis cause bone loss, and therefore are irreversible pathologies.
However, there are certain risk factors that are directly related and that worsen the course of these diseases, such as tobacco, diabetes, or others.
The control of risk factors and the control of plaque by the patient and the professional are essential to achieve good long-term results.
Therefore, our team conducts a previous study to assess the severity and extent of the initial situation based on the recording of clinical parameters, periapical radiographs and a bacteriological test to identify the agents or bacteria that are contributing to the progress of this disease. Based on our diagnosis, we develop a personalized treatment plan in order to combat periodontitis.
